Day 3
Guard it with your life!

In America, newspapers are almost a thing of the past. At least ten years ago, my family canceled our subscription to the Oregonian, our statewide newspaper. Most local newspapers have gone out of business. Sometimes the local Argus throws a free paper into our driveway, but we never read it. When I was a kid, I would make hats out of them.
Unlike in the United Kingdom, print media is still a viable source of media. Newspapers are still the main revenue for the Guardian. We went to their headquarters in London and saw the newsroom, well, through a glass wall. We had a nice presentation about the structure of the company. Being a business major I did find it interesting that there is no real head leader. Mostly decisions are made by the trust holders, a small group of people. That structure makes the system more balanced.

We talked to a journalist and he had interesting insights about the blend of news production and social media. He worked on many stories that he got from viewers and followers from Twitter. The coolest thing I got from his talk was the multimedia project he did. I did not know if those kind of projects did well in terms of hits, and they do. It feels almost like a museum online.
